The Bible League of Canada Holds Day of Inspiration - May 28, 2010

The Bible League of Canada held a Day of Inspiration on Thursday, hosting over 800 volunteers and ministry partners at the Bingeman Conference Centre in Kitchener Ontario.

During the day, presentations were given by a number of Bible League ministry partners, telling about their global work and expressing gratitude for the support received from the Bible League and the Bibles for Missions Thrift Stores across Canada.

Christian Leaders Institute, a partner ministry of The Bible League of Canada introduced a new website that will allow Christians to connect with other Christians online for fellowship and ministry.  Similar to Facebook, but with tighter privacy policies, Cristway will allow Christians to communicate with each other around the world so that together they can be more effective in their ministry through synergism. http://www.cristway.com/

Christian Horizons Global works in nations around the world to establish churches with a holistic ministry.  This partnership includes evangelism, pastor training, poverty reduction, literacy and economic programs that promote sustainability. Within a year or so, 625 church planters will be trained using materials supplied by The Bible League of Canada. They will then train others and so multiply themselves and their ministries.

Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM) is committed to encouraging existing churches to daughter churches.  Their goal is a healthy church representing God’s kingdom in every community in Latin America.  MNM, a partner ministry of The Bible League of Canada also partners with a number of denominations throughout South America.  The denominations set goals for the number of churches to be planted and through MNM, The Bible League of Canada provides training and materials for church planters.   Last year 3380 churches participated in training, and 955 church planters were trained.

The director of The Bible League of Canada for South East Asia shared about the ministry in predominantly Buddhist countries like Myanmar and Cambodia.  He also reported that in the Philippines, Bibles and Bible teaching is impacting remote elementary and high schools.  A former president of the Philippines called for each school to have a Values Education program which opened the doors of the schools to the Bible.  Over the past three years, 600 volunteers have gone into 250 schools distributing 44,000 Bibles supplied by the Bible League Canada.  This led to 30,000 decisions for Christ across the mountainous regions of the Philippines.

According to our ministry partners in India there are more than a thousand people being trained by each year to become church planters in India. Many of them are former Hindus.  They have been set free by Jesus Christ and are serving the Lord, many by planting churches.  The church planters who have been trained average three church plants within two years.  Radical Hindus are persecuting Christians because they are noticing that Hinduism is under threat by Christianity. In the last five years, 25% of temples in some parts of India have closed for want of funds.  n partnership with the Bible League of Canada, over 8118 new churches were planted in 2009.

According to Casey Langbroek, Executive Director of the Bibles for Missions Foundation, “The Bibles for Missions Foundation (BFM) has grown over the past 20 years by the grace of God and by the thousands of volunteers who are the heart of the organization.”  By the end of 2010 the 40th thrift store will open.  He stated that people volunteer because they find companionship, friendship and “a reason to get out of bed in the morning.”  They also do so because they sense they are serving in order to place the Word of God around the world in partnership with the Bible League of Canada.  Over 90% of income to the BFM Foundation is devoted to the worldwide ministry work of The Bible League of Canada.

In his comments to the audience, the new president of The Bible League of Canada said that “It is humbling to be part of what God is doing through The Bible League of Canada and its partners.” He shared how Sir Samuel Tilley, Father of Confederation, brought to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864 an idea based on Psalm 72:8 that Canada be called the Dominion of Canada.  The verse says “He shall have dominion from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.”  He said that God is using The Bible League of Canada and Bibles for Missions Thrift Stores to be part of what God is doing not only across Canada, but around the world, “from the river to the ends of the earth.” He expressed his appreciation to the work of the staff at TBLC and the thousands of volunteers at Bibles for Missions Thrift Stores.

The Day of Inspiration concluded with a reception for the outgoing president who has led the ministry of The Bible League of Canada through times of great change and growth over the past four years.  The incoming president expressed his appreciation for the previous leader's superb leadership, and ministry partners.  Board members from both The Bible League of Canada and Bibles for Missions Canada presented him with a variety of gifts.
