Kyrgyzstan Christians Protected During Time of National Upheaval - June 17, 2010

Kyrgyzstan Christians Protected During Time of National Upheaval - June 17, 2010

Recent reports from the Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan tell of social and military upheaval following the revolution of April 7, 2010.  The interim government has failed to bring the situation under control and with government rule not yet restored, supporters of the former government are gaining influence in parts of the country.

According to a source in Kyrgyzstan, the situation in the South is totally out of control. The fighters have armed vehicles and unlimited supplies of ammunition and guns. From the breakout of the 5 day war in April hundreds have been killed, a few thousand have been wounded and multitudes of houses have been burned down, as well as office buildings and private buildings.  About 100,000 refugees have fled to neighbouring republics. Some sources report that the fighters are relocating to other areas in order to move the war from the South and get the whole country involved.

Local Christians report the miracle that not a single believer or House of Prayer, as local church buildings are called, has been harmed.  A church leader reports “The House of Prayer in Osh is located in an area populated primarily by Uzbeks (they are the targets of the angry crowds). A large mob was moving in the direction of the House of Prayer, killing people on its way, setting homes on fire and destroying everything. When the mob got to about 100 meters from the House of Prayer, a tank showed up from nowhere, soldiers opened fire and people dispersed and never came back. A similar situation happened in the city of Jalalabad. When the crowd was next to the House of Prayer the Lord stirred up a disagreement among them.  They stopped, argued, fought with each other and then turned around and went into the opposite direction.”

Two days ago prayers were offered for Souzak, a large Uzbek village. A group of Uzbek Christian believers lives there. Again, according to local church leaders, “the fighters tried already twice to destroy the village, but each time the Lord intervened and did not allow it to happen. Yesterday the situation seemed hopeless, the village was surrounded and a large crowd was approaching the village. Unarmed villagers were in despair, but thousands prayed asking the Lord to protect His children and He did a miracle. He sent soldiers who came just at the right time to prevent this evil. They pushed the crowd back and forced them to return to Jalalabad.”

A few days ago a couple of Christians attempted to get back to their homes to the city of Osh. The roads were closed, unorganized shooting was going on. Their car came also under fire, but none of them suffered from it, even though bullets hit the car.

An email that arrived today from a Kyrgyzstan Christian has requested that believers around the world pray for the nation and for the Church there.  It ends with these words “We would like to call upon you to sincerely THANK the LORD for His love and grace, and also we urge you to continue to pray for our country.”
