Christians Slaughtered in Nigerian Village - March 9, 2010

They came under the cover of night in the early hours of Sunday, March 7, 2010.  The residents of Dogo na Hauwa, a small village in central Nigeria, were sleeping.  The Muslim Fulani attackers first set traps on all possible escape routes then fired into the air to wake up the villagers, members of the Berom tribe.  As they attempted to flee, they were cut down.  It is estimated that at least 528 were killed.

Conservatives Recant on Plan to Change Lyrics to 'O Canada" March 8, 2010

In the Throne Speech of March 3, 2010 the Conservative Government promised to examine the official words for Canada’s national anthem, specifically looking at making changes to one line.  If the change was adopted, the lyrics “in all thy sons command” would revert to the 1908 original “Thou dost in us command.”   According to Industry Minister Tony Clement, the government had received some complaints about the official line and a suggestion that more gender-neutral wording be found.

A complaint to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario has been lodged over the distribution of Bibles to Grade 5 students by Gideons in the Niagara Region.  Rene and Anna Chouinard contend that the public board should not have allowed the Gideons to hand out New Testaments over the past 12 years.

There is a reason why a point is given in hockey not only for a goal, but for an assist as well – most goals are set up by somebody else.  That was certainly the case in Sunday’s golden moment.  It is a rare Canadian who hasn’t seen the Golden Goal, scored by Sid “the Kid” Crosby at the 7:40 mark of sudden death overtime.  Almost as many Canadians will know that the puck was perfectly passed to Crosby by Jarome Iginla, star forward of the Calgary Flames.

This past Sunday, February 28, Christians in Iraq took to the streets to protest the killings and kidnappings of believers, something that has been on the increase recently.  Iraqi elections are scheduled for this coming Sunday and it is felt that the killings are designed to frighten Christians away from the polls.
